11 days and COUNTING…

Pretty sure this is the longest I’ve gone without posting. But fear not, I have kept up with all my photos. So here they are.

Creme BrulECH!
10.10.08 – “Creme BrulECH!” – 107/365

Maybe I’m uncultured. Maybe I’m supremely American. Maybe my abhorrence for all things pudding, jello, and cream restrict me. I had my first creme brulee last night and I really tried to enjoy it. I liked the taste and the texture of the burntness, but the creme part, not so much. I just can’t get past it.

Merchandising, Merchandising!
10.9.08 – “Merchandising, Merchandising!” – 106/365

This is just a shot of one the products I’m going to start offering on my website. Hopefully it sells. We’ll see. I think it’s too cute, but that’s just me. Here’s a another one and you can see this one and all it’s options here , too.

P.S. If you don’t know the reference I’ve included in the title you must watch this video.

Oh Happy Day
10.8.08 – “Oh Happy Day” – 105/365

Today was the day. I finally got my iPhone. No words can express how happy I feel and how I know my life will certainly never be the same. Below is a short slideshow documenting the monumental event.

Upper Body
10.7.08 – “Upper Body” – 104/365

I have zero upper body strength. Zip.

Maria and everyone ELSE I work with, however, are total champs. Maria shows off her gnarly biceps in this shot. And I know there’s only supposed to be one photo a day, but the photo below is also worthy of peek. Michael makes me laugh.

Save the Ta-Tas
10.6.08 – “Save the Ta-Tas” – 103/365

Casey works at Best Buy who’s employee’s signature blue shirts have now been replaced with pink ones in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness.

Something Different
10.5.08 – “Something Different” – 102/365

I shot some headshots for Casey at the studio where I work. Five hours and a million photos later I still love this one the most. Not sure why.

Something Borrowed
10.4.08 – “Something Borrowed” – 101/365

I had a wedding to shoot along the canal. It was a small casual wedding that went relatively flawlessly. This is one of my favorite shots of the whole day. Others can be seen here and a slideshow of my favorites can be seen here.

What Was He Thinking?
10.3.08 – “What Was He Thinking?” – 100/365

Nothing too eventful today other than a strange decision on Casey’s choice to throw the contents of a full cup of Pepsi on my van’s windshield. Having seen what Florida’s sun can do to such substances on vehicles I immediately had to go spend $8 at a car wash since none of the local gas stations have those window cleaner thingies anymore. Thanks, Case.

Boxes
10.2.08 – “Boxes” – 99/365

I wish I had the energy to take something better than this, but these boxes impose far too much inconvience in our small apartment to not at least be mentioned here. I hate them and can’t wait to fill them with stuff to eventually be unpacked in a fresh new space.

Sandalwood Day 2
10.1.08 – “Sandalwood Day 2” – 98/365

Unfortunately I did have to return to this school the next day. And even more unfortunate was the fact that I was not in ::ahem:: good company. The day went about as horribly as a work day at my job could. The only way to keep myself from standing up and driving away was to create a list of grievances I had about the company. To be nice I only photographed the title of the list, leaving out all the juicy details I’m the company wouldn’y appreciate being plastered on the web. My only hope is I have enough cajones to discuss these with my superiors before I vacate.

Sandalwood Day 1
9.30.08 – “Sandalwood Day 1” – 97/365

My work brought me to a school I care never to return to. The only joy the day brought was a steep incline between the rows of seats, which was promptly used by Maria and I as a mini ‘coaster. Fun times.

The Diner
9.29.08 – “The Diner” – 96/365

As the end of our life in FL draws closer I’m starting to really get around town and visit my favorite places to eat. This diner is as classic as it gets. Total 50s decor, family owned, I’ve seen the same waitresses and cooks there the past 3 years and all the foody is greasily delicious. My usual? The Cheese Melt. Mmmm…

Younger Days
9.28.08 – “Younger Days” – 96/365

Yep. Just another long day with no creativity left to take pictures. So here’s a framed photo that hangs in the hallway of our apartment. It’s me and a friend in Cozumel, 2004. Oh, the days…

casey by destiny

I know this is supposed to be strictly 365 posts, but I didn’t want to add this and then have it be missed later on. So here’s the animation we started last week. I actually finished it within hours of shooting it, with plans of making it twice the length later on with a second shoot, but Casey is rarely in the mood to do these sorts of things after a long day at work, so I decided to make due and finish it with what I had.

Click here to view the video on Flickr.

(Apparently my video was way too cool and Rufus for Youtube, so I can’t post it there due to copyright issues…)

The Birthday Post

So, I originally put out this post without including 73/365 from yesterday. I totally thought I posted it and was completely on my game. I’m still not convinced. Either way, here’s the edit, including the photo from Saturday.

Spontaneity
9.7.08 – “Spontaneity” – 74/365
Today was my birthday and I was sitting at home on the computer when I got this incredible itch to do some stop animation. I’ve never done this before and was really excited. So I knew I needed a story and an inanimate object. I happened to have a major hankerin’ for a pickle and thought "well, a pickle is about as lifeless as it gets", so I set up the ole tripod and went at it. This is one of the many stills from that project which you can view here.

Hey, I've Got My New Shoes On
9.6.08 – “Hey, I’ve Got My New Shoes On” – 73/365

Last night a huge group of my friends and I went bowling in celebration of my birthday, which isn’t really until tomorrow (the 7th), and had a swinging good time. Afterwards we ate incredibly too much at Denny’s and made the terrible mistake of heading back to campus where we used to entire Fine Arts Building as our personal playing field for serious games of Manhunt and Capture Flag (multiple levels, multiple staircases, elevators). Needless to say after three hours and by 2am we were all ready to puke, but pretty much decided we needed to turn our antics into a weekly league and meet every weekend. It’s going to be great and I hope it actually happens a few times before I move!

I created some animated gifs of the “better” bowling techniques I noticed at the alley and put them in this set for my friends and fellow Flickrites to enjoy.

Much Labor on Labor Day

Lots of stuff going on in my life at this point and YET I somehow manage to squeeze these photos in. I don’t have one for today yet, that’s a work in a progress, but here are my picks for the last week or so.

I-95, I Despise

8.31.08 – 67/365 – “I-95, I Despise”

So one party and roughly 23 loads of laundry later, Casey and I made our way back up to Jacksonville. This was my view the WHOLE way.

Untitled

8.30.08 – 66/365 – “Untitled”

Casey’s dad bought a jammin’ new camera and I immediately launched into finding it’s nitty-gritty details and specs. Delicious.

Twigs and Berries

8.29.08 – 65/365 – “Twigs and Berries”

During our second day on holiday we were given the opportunity of babysitting Casey’s niece, Kendall. She’s about 15 months and greeted us at the door in the most adorable striped, two-piece dress. The explanation for this came from Casey’s sister, Shayne, who declared that she wanted her to wear something she thought we’d put on our own kid so we could pretend she was ours for the day and get a gist for THAT whole situation.

We took her to the local mall, browsed a book store, and a puppy store before settling down at Smoothie King to get Kendall her favorite: Twigs and Berries!

Oh, Mulder...

8.28.08 – 64/365 – “Oh, Mulder…”

Casey and I left for a mini-vacay to his mother’s before our big move and stopped off at his favorite burger joint, Doubles. Lo and behold, they had an X-Files pinball machine!! I was overcome with joy and immediately started snapping pictures.

I’ve recently become obsessed with show, thanks to Casey. I’d never seen the show but was interested in seeing the movie. He said I had to at least watch the show first, TIVOed it for me, and the rest is history.

Badoom, Ching!

8.27.08 – 63/365 – “Badoom, Ching!”

My boyfriend, Casey, has been deep in research for nearly a year now planning a big purchase of a new drumset. He’s had his current one almost ten years and has DEFINITELY out grown it.

Finally, the day came when it ARRIVED! I was greeted after a brief knock at the door by a mountain of UPS boxes blocking my exit (definitely a fire hazard). Casey was bursting at the seams to say the least.

*note: This delivery only included his cymbals, cymbal stands, and drum cases. The actual set is yet to come!

For more delivery fun check out other photos from the fun-filled unpacking!

Dinosaur Under the Couch

8.26.08 – 62/365 – “Dinosaur Under the Couch”

I’m in the pre-stages of moving essentially from coast to coast (Florida to NY), so it’s CONSOLIDATION TIME! I’m packing clothes we won’t need for a while, Christmas supplies, and craft stuff (::sniff, sniff…I know:::) to store at my parent’s while we move the important stuff first.

The other huge task at hand is emptying all important info and photos from obsolete computers that are just taking up space at this point. I plan on selling these antiques as soon as I’m done (probably for parts). When I pulled this laptop from under the couch I could barely lift it up it was SOOOO heavy. I was amazed at the difference between it and the one I have now. Amazing.

Dogs are A'Barkin'

8.25.08 – 61/365 – “Dogs are A’Barkin'”

Not much to say here. I was pooped at the end of the day and just managed to snap this shot of Casey’s tootsies.

Fay Lingers

8.24.08 – 60/365 – “Fay Lingers”

Fay had been washed away for the most part, however her flooding lingered for a while especially in the streets, between medians and such. This is a view from my drivers seat at a busy intersection.

Stud

8.23.08 – 59/365 – “Stud”

I performed what may be my last classically oriented concert ever on August 23. My professor, Char, puts on a recital near the end of every summer and has done so for 25 years. This year was the 25th and final one as she has decided to retire the concert series. With 1,400 in the audience and news personnel around every corner, I was asked to be a featured performer and do a piece called “Stubernic” with Char and fellow UNF grad (and boyfriend), Casey. The whole concert was emotional to say the least, but ended with a crowd favorite, Rockin’ Ricky Rocket (Char sits and pretends to be playing a drumset while we all do the sounds of each instrument with our voices). As tradition continues, we all dress up in fanciful costumes and colorful getups. Mike here went with my suggestion to wear the lime green bandana around his neck, muffler style, instead of as a do-rag. I think it looks fabulous. You can see other amazing wardrobe choices here.

They Call it Stormy Monday

It’s been a few days since my last post and a whole mess of stuff has gone down. Between Tropical Storm Fay and a few other events I’ve been busy and stressed. Here’s the breakdown.

Unexpected
8.22.08 – 58/365 – “Unexpected”

Yesterday was quite a day. Aside from work being cancelled, all my rehearsals being moved to the end of the day (which never happened anyways, due to the storm), tearing everything out of our bedroom apartment so we could avoid the multiple tornado touch downs in our area, water damage in the living room, cracked windows, and unstable power, one huge event stood out among the crowd.

Around noon I was sitting on my computer in the living room and heard someone screaming "FIRE!" outside. I quickly jumped up and looked outside and indeed my neighbor’s apartment was in flames. I grabbed my phone and bolted outside dialing 9-1-1, while running towards the building. I was giving directions to the fire station when my neighbor ran out of the apartment screaming "I NEED FIRE EXTINGUISHERS!!". No one else was around. I ran up to him, telling him I called the police, and ran up to the building. I’m not sure what I was thinking, but adrenaline told me to do something. So I started pounding on the door of the apartment next to his, the heat of the flames and the smoke stinging my eyes and pretty much preventing any breathing. Nobody answered the door no matter how desperately I yelled and banged on the door.

Meanwhile, two other neighbors ran over and gave him fire extinguishers. I ran up the stairs in the front of his door to get people out of the apartment above him and as I approach the flaming door of the 2nd floor the flames and smoke were so overwhelming I didn’t know what to do. Suddenly, there was LOUD banging/popping and I screamed. My neighbor starts screaming "GET DOWN!!! THERE’S A GUN IN THERE!!!". So I’m trapped on the stairs. If I go up I get burned from the 2nd story flames, if I go down I’m right in front of the open apartment door with the gun going off. I don’t know what else to do but make a run for it and sprint down the stairs, rounds continously popping off. I make it past the door and tear away from the building and see my boyfriend blocking his body with a tree. I run up to my inconsolable neighbor who is screaming about his dog that’s still in the apartment. Finally the fire trucks arrive and my boyfriend pulls me away to stay away from the gun which is still going off.

All the while it’s raining harder than I’ve ever seen it rain and tornado warnings are in effect for our street. We go back to our porch and watch the firemen pull people from the building, pets in their arms, black from the smoke. An elderly neighbor hands me a dry towel and offers me tea. I was gone at this point, crying harder than I’ve cried in a long time. After a half hour or so, my boyfriend takes me inside and gets me some dry clothes and tells me to breathe.

I still don’t know what caused the fire or what the outcome was. I was barely able to snap this photo and am 100% positive now that I could never be a photojournalist. I felt guilty and sick to my stomach after taking it. I hope no one was seriously hurt or died, although I’m sure my neighbor lost his dog, which makes me incredibly sad.

Note: I post this story not to invoke sympathy, but as a therapeutic tool to understanding the turn of events and coming to terms with what I experienced.

Fay-tigued
8.21.08 – 57/365 – “Fay-tigued”

So, Fay strikes again, this time at the work place. All our sessions were cancelled and the break called for immediate cleaning duty for all!! Yay! Alex, here, started with a clean sweep of the loft and then mopped. I did many things, one of which (painting the entire window sill and adjacent wall) proved entirely fruitless as Fay caused such incredible water damage two days later, we had to cancel all our appointments AGAIN and the paint was ruined anyways).

Boo, Fay!
8.20.08 – 56/365 – “Boo, Fay!”

So, for those of you who don’t know I live in Florida and needless to say was very tired of hearing about this wimpy Tropical Storm Fay from every local TV station was trying to get everyone to put hurricane shutters on their doors and stock up on food. However, I did get a day off from work because of it and took the unexpected holiday, with my beau, to the mall (I am an American, am I not?)!

This photo depicts how frighteningly early Halloween crap has appeared in stores this year. Note: I saw this stuff in the stores two weeks before I actually took this photo…too early!!!

I Heart Bento
8.19.08 – 55/365 – “I Heart Bento”

So for a while I’ve been using Bento’s free trial on my MPB and simply couldn’t get enough of it. So I went and bought the real deal at my local Apple Store. Personally, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to live without it from now on and I don’t know how I did anything before I discovered it. Check it out, share the love.

Holay, Molay…

Wow. So it’s been roughly forever since a post from me, yet feast your eyes upon my unyielding display of fortitude, for I have not faltered in my 365 quest. I have a photo for each day of my absence, however lame they may be.

Fun With Photobooth
8.18.08 – 54/365 – “Fun With Photobooth”

On my flight back to Jacksonville and I, of course, left my camera in the overhead storage and, not wanting to disturb my sleepy blanket-covered seat buddy, I decided to have a little fun with Photobooth. It’s clouds. And a wing. Not too complex.

Cleveland Symphony
8.17.08 – 53/365 – “Cleveland Symphony”

*disclaimer: taken with cell phone camera due to my naive nature in thinking I wouldn’t be allowed to bring my real camera. Lame.

During my mini-vacay to my Dad’s in Cleveland we decided it would be fun to go see the symphony at their summer home at the Blossom Music Center. It’s an outside venue/amphitheater with seats under the main shell of the building and then a huge lawn where families can set up camp with blankets, chairs, and food. The program was great, the weather was sublime, and the quality of music was incredible. A traditional Pops concert, it started with the Star Spangled Banner, included some Sousa marches, a surprise performance of "Sleigh Ride", and closed with my favorite of all John Williams scores "E.T.". I was blubberly like a baby, of course, but didn’t care really. I was sitting there listening to the music realizing I was sitting on a beautiful evening, listening to make favorite music (performed live!), without a care in the world. It was such a strange thing to realize when I looked back a few years before at points in my life when a simple, happy life seemed such a distant flicker in the future and tending to look at life with a sort of grouchy, indifference because of the cards I seemed to be getting dealt. It may sound corny but that night I was proud to be a musician, an American, and exactly who and how I am.

Jimmy Magoo
8.16.08 – 52/365 – “Jimmy Magoo”

This is my cousin’s son James (otherwise known as Jimmy Magoo) playing with a racquet at my niece’s 1st birthday party. Quite the little man.

Untitled
8.15.08 – 51/365 – “Untitled”

This is the bedroom in my grandmother’s house where I slept growing up. Unlike my family in Florida, my Ohio family has the luxury of being able to live with the windows open. This affords a really mesmerizing dance from the curtains that hang over every window in my grandmother’s house.

Declining-Economy Packing
8.14.08 – 50/365

Thanks to the rise in gas and everything else in America, airlines are forced to add prices to "luxuries", such as a CHECKED BAG or a PILLOW. This leaves me no choice but to travel only with carry-ons. This is a huge undertaking, mainly because I dressed based on mood and tend to pack entirely too much for the trip at hand. Even with this handy, carry-on duffel I managed to squeeze in 20 outfits for a three day weekend. Feel free to congratulate me in person.

Mystery No More
8.13.08 – 49/365 – “Mystery No More”

Clue: big huge, overly popularized television show centered on singing/screaming airing on Fox to the delight of pre-teens across the country. Read on for more tantalizing clues.

Idol Breakfast
8.12.08 – 48/365 – “Idol Breakfast”

As lame as it sounds I made a point of going out to a pre-Idol audition-pancake-breakfast with my boyfriend. With thoughts of transformational fame in mind, I wanted to make sure I could have one public, fun, PRIVATE outing with my boyfriend before any sort of outlandish publicity ensued. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t think I’m amazing or worthy of such heightened attention, but neither did William Hung when he went and now he’ll never have his old life back (that I think he minds, but still). I just didn’t want to set out for the audition and come back unable to be at peace with my life if, by some miracle, I happened to fit into that niche-cookie-cutter-category they were looking for this season.

Power of the Band
8.11.08 – 47/365 – “Power of the Band”

Yes. Yours truly is auditioning for American Idol. And I purposely left the image from the actual audition without a major description to keep you in complete suspense of my results (I’m sure you were on the edge of your seat). So here it is: it was a big, fat, insincere NO THANK YOU. All in all in was a fun experience (although exhausting, very enlightening, less entertaining than educational, and very very long). Bonus points for photos of Ryan Seacrest. You can read a full review of my experience here. (link will be added tomorrow…8.19.08 )

Ta-Da!
8.10.08 – 46/365 – “Ta Da!”

So I FINALLY did it. I’ve been telling myself to get around to it and I eventually got down to it. My first tshirt design for Threadless. Unfortunately, three days later I got a "Submission Declined" email and was promptly told to add some revisions to the design (which I totally understand, since I was really doing the design purely to have the experience of formatting it to the template). But now I know. Onward tshirt, ho!

My Savior
8.9.08 – 45/365 – “My Savior”

Nothing too amazing here. Frankly, I ran out of ideas and was so pooped at the end of the day I was lying on my living room floor looking up at my fancy 13 foot ceiling/skylights and thinking "I’m so glad I have high ceilings, otherwise I’d feel even more claustrophobic than I already do." Then I realized "hey" I should probably take a picture of that.

Coming to the End of a LONG week

The week isn’t over yet, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I’ve been incredibly busy the last few weeks (at my day job and my freelance). I’ve got a week off next week for many reasons (to be revealed in due time) and cannot WAIT for the relaxation factor to kick in.

Jammin'
8.8.08 – 44/365 – “Jammin'”

As is the usual post work excursion, my boyfriend and I went walking around one of the various malls in town. We never really buy anything, but it’s fun to pick stuff out for eachother and laugh and people taking it all too seriously. I’ve had my eye on these glasses for a while now and thought I snap a quick self portrait in one of my favie stores (Urban Outfitters). That’s my beau in the background.

The Amazing Alex
8.7.08 – 43/365 – “The Amazing Alex”

During my long days at work where I take roughly 1500-2000 photos a day I sometimes manage to snap a few fun shots to keep the day moving along. Here’s Alex posing as a super hero in a fan used for the "wind blown" look. More fun pictures of Alex can be found here.

The Crumb
8.6.08 – 42/365 – “The Crumb”

I’ve come to realize that I’m one of few people that do "streaks" in their life for fun. I like to test my limits and see how far and I go with one stupid, unnecessary action (or non-action) just to see what happens. Aside from my burger and fast food streaks (I haven’t had a burger in about 4 years and no fast food since January of this year) this little guy has stood the test of time. This crumb is originally from a Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuit that was in a to-go box from an anniversary dinner over two years ago. It sits on the dash board of my boyfriend’s Mustang and is a constant reminder of our weird love of streaks.
